Pioppino Mushrooms

A rich, nutty mushroom, firm texture and deep culinary roots.

Pioppino mushrooms, also known as black poplar mushrooms, are prized for their long stems, small brown caps, and rich, earthy flavor. Traditionally used in Italian and Mediterranean cooking, they bring a refined, rustic character to a wide range of dishes.

Taste & How to Cook

A favorite in rustic and Italian-style cooking.

Pioppino mushrooms have a firm texture and a deep, nutty flavor with a slightly sweet finish. They hold their shape well when cooked, making them ideal for dishes where texture matters.

They work especially well in:

  • Sauté with olive oil, garlic, and herbs
  • Add to pasta or risotto
  • Pair with meats and roasted vegetables
  • Use whole to showcase their long stems

In Nature

Pioppino mushrooms grow on hardwood trees, particularly poplar, which gives them their name. In the wild, they appear in clusters and play an important role in breaking down wood and recycling nutrients within forest ecosystems.

We grow fresh Pioppino mushrooms throughout the season and bring them to local markets. Follow us on Instagram to see when they’re available.
